Patient Care Philosophy:
I’m deeply committed to establishing trusting relationships by prioritizing patient-centered care and striving to provide comfort and support during the most stressful and vulnerable moments of patients’ lives.
As a gerontological nurse practitioner, Megan LaPlaca focuses on creating trusting environments where patients feel prioritized and supported.
After receiving her BSN from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in 2014, Megan served as a registered nurse in the health system’s Acute Care Oncology unit, where she managed all aspects of patient care and daily living activities. She also spent two years as an oncology travel nurse. She worked at University of Louisville and The Ohio State University’s James Cancer Center. Megan went on to receive her Master of Science in Nursing – with a concentration in Adult Gerontology Acute Care – in 2021. She is a proud member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), the Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) and its Richmond chapter, as well as the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Megan is particularly interested in the latest advancements in immunotherapy to treat cancer and in optimizing symptom management techniques to give patients a better quality of life.
In her free time, Megan loves being in nature – hiking, mountain biking, or hanging with the goldfish in her backyard pond. While she’s a travel enthusiast, Megan also loves spending time at home dabbling in new hobbies, like painting and guitar, and hanging out with her fiancé Jesse and two cats, Da Baby and Pip.
