Marissa Citarelli brings expertise in both hematological and oncological conditions to the Virginia Cancer Institute at both the Johnston Willis Hospital and Harborside on Hull locations. She strives to guide her patients through treatment with compassion and dignity by blending evidence-based medicine with a deep commitment to patient-centered care.
For Marissa, being part of her patient’s journey is an incredible privilege. She finds inspiration in the evolving possibilities at all levels of cancer treatment, from standard therapies to innovative experimental advancements. She believes that each step in the treatment process represents a profound intersection of science, hope, and human connection.
Marissa earned her Master of Physician Assistant Studies and Master of Science in Public Health from East Carolina University, where she developed a strong foundation in clinical decision-making and multidisciplinary collaboration. Her professional journey began at Mary Washington Medical Center where
she served as a Physician Assistant in the Oncology Department, as well as an education coordinator and trainer for other healthcare providers.
Marissa belongs to several professional associations, including the North Carolina Academy of Physician Assistants, the American Academy of Physician Assistants, and the Mary Washington Cancer Center Survivorship Committee, underscoring her dedication to both her patients and the broader medical community.
When not at work, Marissa enjoys exploring the vibrant local food scene in the Richmond metropolitan area, savoring the creativity and culture it offers.
