Patient Care Philosophy:
I strive to treat each patient as an individual and tailor their care around their personal needs and preferences.
Nurse practitioner Jessie O. Turner cares for her patients as individuals. She is mindful that every person who seeks care at the Virginia Cancer Institute has unique strengths and limitations when it comes to their oncology treatment, and she ensures that those qualities are taken into account when working closely with doctors to formulate a treatment plan. Jessie is dedicated to helping patients navigate their symptoms while maintaining quality of life in the process. VCI’s ability to provide innovative and attentive care for every patient is only possible because of nurse practitioners like Jessie who are determined to make the difficult process of oncology care as manageable as possible.
Jessie received her Master’s of Science in Nursing as an Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner from Maryville University in the spring of 2019. While in school, she worked for VCI as an oncology/chemotherapy infusion registered nurse at our West End location. Prior to that she worked at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond as a patient care technician, then a registered nurse in the Orthopedic Spine Unit. She is affiliated with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, the Virginia Council of Nurse Practitioners, the Richmond Advanced Practice Society, and the Oncology Nursing Society.
Outside of work, Jessie enjoys spending time with her husband, son, and Basset Hound Mabel. She also loves the water and spending time at the beach, visiting wineries, cooking, and shopping.
