Patient Care Philosophy:
I believe every patient deserves compassionate, individualized care grounded in trust, empathy, and clinical excellence. By listening carefully and partnering with each patient and family, I strive to provide personalized support and the highest quality care from diagnosis through survivorship.
Edyta Laura Polkosnik, DNP, FNP-BC, brings years of hands-on oncology nursing experience to her role as a nurse practitioner at Virginia Cancer Institute’s West End location. Having cared for patients through chemotherapy, immunotherapy, bone marrow transplantation, and other advanced cancer therapies, she understands the challenges of a cancer diagnosis firsthand. Her compassionate approach, combined with a commitment to evidence-based care, helps patients feel informed, supported, and confident throughout every stage of treatment.
Before becoming a nurse practitioner, Edyta served as an oncology infusion registered nurse at Virginia Cancer Institute, where she cared for patients receiving chemotherapy, targeted therapies, biologics, and supportive infusions. She also worked on the Adult and Pediatric Cellular Immunotherapies and Transplant Unit at VCU Health, caring for patients undergoing autologous and allogeneic stem cell transplantation as well as CAR-T cell therapy. These experiences shaped her passion for helping patients navigate complex diagnoses with empathy, clear communication, and personalized care.
Edyta earned both her Doctor of Nursing Practice and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Virginia Commonwealth University, graduatingsumma cum laude. Prior to pursuing nursing, she earned a Master of Science in Accountancy from the University of Notre Dame and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Finance from Baruch College before building a successful career in business leadership. Inspired by volunteer work with children receiving cancer treatment, she chose to dedicate her career to oncology. Her professional interests include hematologic oncology, cancer genomics, CAR-T therapy, and emerging treatments for blood cancers and solid tumors. She is an active member of the American Nurses Association, the Oncology Nursing Society, and The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi.
Outside of the office, Edyta enjoys spending time with her husband, two children, two cats, and Mini Australian Shepherd. She also enjoys hiking, traveling, and playing tennis.
