Patient Care Philosophy:
I believe patients should control their medical care based on sound, professional advice from their care team. My role is to provide the patient, and their support persons, with accurate, individualized information in an honest and compassionate manner so that they can make the best decisions for themselves.
Nicole McGhee is a dedicated and compassionate nurse practitioner with a commitment to providing comprehensive and personalized care to her patients. With nearly two decades of experience in nursing, Nicole has developed a deep understanding of patient needs, with a passion for empowering individuals to take control of their health through robust patient education.
Nicole began with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree at Bon Secours Mercy Health System hospitals in Richmond, Virginia. There she worked in various practice settings, including gynecology/oncology and the operating room, where she obtained national board certifications in each specialty. Inspired by the advanced practitioners she worked alongside, Nicole continued her education, earning her Master of Science in Nursing with a concentration in Adult Gerontology Primary Care at Post University. This advanced degree has enabled her to refocus her practice towards a holistic approach to patient care. She believes in the importance of treating not just the disease, but also helping individuals define and achieve their desired level of wellness by fostering a collaborative relationship with her patients.
In her current role as a nurse practitioner at the Virginia Cancer Institute, Nicole is based at the Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, Forest, and Parham locations. Beyond her clinical duties, Nicole is an active member of the healthcare community, holding affiliations with the American Association of Nurse Practitioners and the Oncology Nursing Society. She is committed to staying engaged with the latest developments in her field and contributing to the advancement of nursing practice. Outside of her professional life, Nicole stays active by spending time with her three children and staying involved in their extracurricular activities. She is an avid reader, enjoys attending live music concerts, and enjoys exploring new culinary experiences by trying out different restaurants.
