Emily N. Kinsey, MD
Patient Care Philosophy:
I communicate openly and honestly with my patients and treat each of them as I would a loved one.
Dr. Emily Kinsey’s patients know they are in good hands. In fact, many patients have told Dr. Kinsey that she “is like family.” She is committed to providing compassionate and personalized care to her patients to help them meet their individual goals. Among her accolades she may be most proud that she received a “Wow” Award from a patient for outstanding bedside manner at the Durham Veterans Affairs Hospital while she was a resident at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Kinsey received her Bachelor of Arts in biology at the University of Virginia and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She studied medicine at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, graduating in the top 1 percent of her class. She was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society as a third year medical student at UVA. She completed her residency in internal medicine at Duke University Medical Center. During her residency she served as Assistant Chief Resident and was recognized by Duke medical students with the Appleseed Teaching Award. Dr. Kinsey then completed her fellowship in hematology and oncology at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Kinsey began her career at VCI in the West End in 2021. She has a particular interest in breast, lung, and GI cancers and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology. She has published in various areas of oncology including breast cancer, genitourinary cancer, and supportive care in cancer. She has presented at numerous conferences including giving an oral presentation at the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer. Also generous with her time and skills, Dr. Kinsey has led a “Mini Med School” at an elementary school in Charlottesville, made house calls with social workers from Albemarle County Adult Protective Services, and provided medical care to the underserved population in Appalachia.
When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Kinsey enjoys running, spending time with her daughters, and heading to the beach or the mountains with her family.
