Virginia Cancer Institute Earns Prestigious QOPI® Certification
Virginia Cancer Institute has been recognized as meeting the highest standards for cancer care under the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI®) Certification Program. The Richmond-based practice is the first in Central Virginia to earn this designation. Only 108 practices nationwide hold this certification. The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO®) developed QOPI® certification. The program began in January 2010 and is the first of its kind for outpatient oncology in the United States. Receiving certification means that an organization has received high scores on quality measures and met exacting safety measures established by ASCO®
Virginia Cancer Institute is Chosen for Patient Education Effort
The Virginia Cancer Institute is participating in a pilot program for distribution of the award-winning Cancer Survival Toolbox®. The Toolbox is a National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) initiative designed to help patients and their families deal effectively with every stage of the disease.
Richmond-based Virginia Cancer Institute is the only medical practice in the United States engaged in this phase of this project. Lessons learned here will shape the Toolbox’s national launch. Under this program, the Virginia Cancer Institute is providing the Toolbox free of charge to its patients. This comprehensive kit consists of a resources booklet and 10 CDs. The CDs cover many issues, ranging from communicating with doctors to paying for treatment and caring for caregivers.
